La liga news: Lionel Messi speaks about his plans for 2014 World Cup

Barcelona striker Lionel Messi revealed his plans yesterday for this year after a brilliant comeback.

"I'm very happy, I am willing to come back and play soccer after such a long time out. I'm lucky because day by day I'm feeling better, with a lot of vision to have a great year - not just with Barcelona but also with Argentina.", told four time Ballon D'or winner.

"Every year I start with the same mentality to keep growing and improving, to always be at the same level. Before the World Cup we have a lot of important things with Barcelona. We have the Champions League, La Liga and the Copa del Rey and that is not the only motivation for me, but [also] for all of us to keep growing.", added 26 year old.

When asked about group stage matches for Argentina being easy ones, "There’s been a lot of talk about how easy it’s going to be, that Argentina are bound to go through comfortably, but it’s a World Cup and there are no easy teams. If they’re there it’s because they deserve to be – there are no straightforward matches at a World Cup.", he said.

Pele and Robbie Fowler praise Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo

Brazilian legend Pele quotes that Lionel Messi is similar to him, during an interview with FIFA Weekly magazine.
"Ribery, Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo all have different characteristics, but all are attackers like me. In terms of the role he plays within the team, Messi has the style which is most similar to mine." said Brazil international.
When asked about his favorite player, he said, "I really can't compare those four players. It's impossible to answer that question. Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic are more similar, but Ribery is a classic playmaker, and Messi simply can't be compared with anybody."

While in another interview, Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler told reporters, "I have a soft corner for Cristiano. I think he deserved to win the Ballon D'Or. He has been fantastic throughout the season, I want Messi to do well. He has not done well for his country in the World Cup. I just think he will have a big World Cup this time. Messi has been struggling with injuries this season and even before his (Messi's) injury, Suarez was doing better. So I said Suarez was better than Messi this season."

Arsene Wenger writes on Lionel Messi being the greatest of all time

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wrote on Eurosport about Argentine Captain and Barcelona star Lionel Messi that if he wins World Cup then he will be the best player ever in football.

"People say Lionel Messi is not at the top of his game, but Barcelona won La Liga in a very convincing way last season, with over 100 goals. People judge on the moment but his last season was truly amazing. He has the opportunity to be the best of all time." he wrote in a post.

"Argentina still doesn't know it but Lionel Messi can give a big win to his country. If he achieves it during the Brazil World Cup he will be the best player ever. But it won’t be easy: Argentina have many great forwards, but defensively they are not great." he added.

"Their defense has not been very convincing, especially in South Africa in 2010 and also in qualifying. If Argentina do find a balance however, they will be one of the favorites for the trophy." Wenger added.
